Welcome!  Making Face, Making Soul is a site by, for, and about Chicanas, meaning women of Mexican descent in the United States.  This site contains a variety of resources ranging from short biographies of Chicanas, to Chicana poetry and literature, cultural resources, academic resources, otras chicanas on the 'net, and more...

I hope you enjoy visiting and revelling in from the fact that there are tons of us chicanas/ latinas/ mexicanas out here and that we are doing some pretty wonderful and amazing things, things that don't always get noticed by the media or the history books. From raising healthy children in this crazy world we live in, to being bilingual teachers, to activistas locas, chicanas are kicking ass and i am proud to be telling about it.

Be sure to bookmark the front page of the site, because it is updated often with news, reviews, and info about other changes to the site.  I'm proud to feature contributions by chicana college students from california and texas, chingona biographies by chicana/o faculty from all over, and from mothers, professionals, students, and various working people in the guestbook.  Please, if you have suggestions or contributions, write me!

While this site is by, for, and about chicanas, it is also for "everybody else", because we are part of so many different communities.  This site deals with women's issues, family issues, racial and ethnic issues, women of color issues, working class issues, sexuality issues, and youth issues.  This is a place where everybody can learn from Chicana experiences.

I am your webjefa, Susana Gallardo, a doctoral candidate in the department of Religious Studies at Stanford University.  So i'm fortunate to be able to share with you some of the historical, cultural, and political resources i've come across in my (extended!) education.  i will of course always ultimately be responsible for any errors or miscalculations on this site.
Okay, let's get started!
